The Fullerton Arboretum will be hosting its annual “June Bloom” Perennial Plant Sale at The Potting Shed, located on the grounds of the Arboretum, June 19 & 20, 2010. For flower and garden enthusiasts, this Perennial Plant Sale promises to offer a huge selection and variety of perennial flowering plants, at the perfect time of the year for planting.
Look for Erodium 'Marian', a beautiful little plant that is great for rock gardens or perennial borders. Rich pinkish-purple flowers throughout summer. Green, ferny looking foliage forms a good clump that grows 8 to 12 inches tall and 12 to 18 inches wide.
Don’t miss the Penstemon 'Red rocks'. This Bruce Meyers selection, ‘Red Rocks’, forms a vase shaped plant is evergreen. The bright cherry-pink flowers are white-throated and attract hummingbirds and butterflies alike. This drought tolerant perennial grows 3 feet tall and blooms summer through early November.
And, look for Salvia 'Christine Yeo'. Christine Yeo is a cross between S. microphylla and S. chamaedryoides that provides a durable, compact bush with continuous blooms spring through early winter. This plant is an aromatic, ornamental, and particularly attractive to hummingbirds. It is drought tolerant, grows in full sun or part shade, reaches a height of 24”, and has deep violet flowers.
Also featured are many other colorful and hardy perennials will be available including Achillea, Agastache, Arctotis, Asclepias, Bulbine, Centranthus, Cuphea, Dianthus, Euphorbia, Felicia, Geranium, Justicia, Pelargonium, Ruellia, Salvia and Veronica.
Established in 1979, the Fullerton Arboretum has served the community as a premier resource for ecological, horticultural and historical education. There is not a charge for visitors, however to help support the development of the Arboretum gardens and educational programs, voluntary donations at the main entrance are encouraged. The Fullerton Arboretum is the largest botanical garden in Orange County. Encompassing 26 lush acres, The Fullerton Arboretum has assembled a permanent collection of over 4,000 unique and unusual plant species from around the world. With its ponds, streams and wildlife, the Fullerton Arboretum offers a tranquil retreat from a fast-paced urban life.
