What is a Biome?

Have you ever noticed how different your home area is from one you are visiting? Why do certain places have similar plants, similar animals, and why is the weather unique to that specific place?

Ecosystems are specific areas where organisms interact or work together as a community. A set of ecosystems that has similar weather, rainfall, animals, and plants is called a biome. Although there are many biomes on the planet, we only focus on four that are exhibited here at Fullerton Arboretum.

Featured Biomes

A biome is a large area or region on Earth that has a certain climate and certain types of living organisms. The plants and animals of each biome have characteristics or adaptations that help them to survive in their particular biome.
