Morning Yoga in the Garden with Kim Mason

A refreshing morning of yoga awaits you
every Saturday this Spring!  Come connect with nature and your spirit as you practice yoga in our beautiful garden setting.  Music, spare mats, and snacks are provided.
Kim Mason is a certified yoga instructor with over 20 years experience.  Her training includes lyengar yoga, Hatha yoga, Kundalini yoga, and various types of meditation.  Her clients include Team Survivor, Anaheim Achieves, Irvine Public Schools Foundation and Nickelodeon.

All classes are on Saturdays / 9:00 - 10:30 / Meet at Nature Center
Jan Session: Jan 9, 16, 23, 30 / 4 classes for $52/members $60/nonmembers
Feb Session: Feb 6, 13, 20, 27 / 4 classes for $52/members $60/nonmembers

with landscape architect Rick Fisher


Discover the irrigation solutions to quality garden care with significantly less water. Landscape architect Rick Fisher returns to Fullerton Arboretum to teach class participants basic irrigation design and other water management techniques used to get maximum benefit while using minimum water in the garden.

Edible, Medicinal, Material, Ceremonial: Contemporary Ethnobotany of Southern California with Deborah Small and Rosie Ramirez
Sponsored by Fullerton Arboretum and the CSUF Department of Anthropology with funding from the CSUF Faculty Development Center

Join us for a multimedia presentation on this ongoing project to document the contemporary uses of native plants of profound importance to the intellectual, spiritual and cultural vitality of Indian people.
Presenting their work are Deborah Small, artist, photographer and professor of Visual and Performing Arts at California State University San Marcos, and Rose Ramirez, California Indian basket weaver of Chumash descent, photographer, and board member of the non-profit American Indian Channel.

Learn about the natural history, identifying characteristics, songs, and specialized adaptations of our feathered friends who visit the Arboretum. This is a great opportunity for both beginning and experienced birders—we recommend multiple walks!

Eat the Yard! Organic Edible Gardening 3-Part Series

Due to popular demand, two sessions now available for each class

Part I: Intro to Edible Gardening with Fullerton Arboretum gardener Jonathan Davis

Part I offered to Fullerton residents at reduced cost through sponsorship by City of Fullerton

 

Tomatoes, squash, peppers, herbs, corn, beans, melons and more! Thanks to our Southern California climate, you can experience the simple joys of growing delicious, nutritious food in your own garden year-round – using less water than it takes to grow your lawn.

 

Classroom instruction and hands-on practice in our own Organic Vegetable Garden are led by gardener Jonathan Davis. Class covers low-labor lawn removal, soil amendment, planning for efficient use of space and resources, starting plants from seeds, companion planting and polyculture (e.g. growing squash, corn, and beans together in a three-sisters arrangement), and water conservative irrigation practices. Class fee includes a set of starter seeds to plant at home.

 

Jonathan Davis is an ethnobotanist, gardener, and passionate foodie.

Fullerton Arboretum has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its GreenScapes activities including its commitment to providing outstanding composting classes. Our instructors, Dr. Bill Roley, President of Applied Ecological Systems, and Patrick McNelly, Principal Staff Analyst for the O.C. Sanitation District, have won the nationally recognized H. Clark Gregory Award for Outstanding Grassroots Efforts to Promote Composting.

How to Grow the Best Tomatoes with Steve Goto

 

Just in time to help you get the most out of our annual Monster Tomato and Pepper Sale*, third generation nurseryman and tomato expert Steve Goto visits the Fullerton Arboretum to share his best practices and tips for growing great tomatoes. Steve’s course includes “Tomato 101” topics, growing tomatoes organically, and an introduction to Heirloom Tomato varieties. Come listen for Steve’s tomato-related secrets and specific recommendations based on our Tomato Sale list.

 

A celebrated guest speaker, Steve Goto has been researching and growing tomatoes since 1982 and runs the family business at Goto Nursery. Currently, Steve grows over 100 varieties of Heirloom tomatoes at the request of customers. 

 

* Members-Only Tomato Sale starts at 3:00 pm on Thursday, March 18 following the class. Nonmembers attending the class will have the opportunity to join the Arboretum and take advantage of this special sale. Sale opens to the general public Friday at 9:00 am.

Class V: Edible Landscapes with landscape designer Steve Gerischer

Learn how to grow an edible landscape that is packed with color, is water-wise, and produces year-round.

 

Instructor Steve Gerischer is an award-winning landscape designer, teacher, and current president of the Southern California Horticulture Society.
